First Impressions
Solway Dry Gin is the foundation upon which the entire Solway Spirits range is built. Every flavoured gin in the range starts with this classic London Dry — and judged on its own merits, it is a well-made, aromatic gin with exotic spice character from cumin and cardamom.
Tasting
The nose presents juniper and sweet citrus. On the palate, a hit of juniper mellows into faint cumin and cardamom, giving a spiced note with a back tone of lemon. Exotic spices accentuate the peppery juniper heat. The finish is surprisingly long and warming. A solid London Dry that earns its place as the base for the Solway range.
The Bottom Line
Solway Dry earns a 7 as a well-made London Dry with aromatic cumin-cardamom spice. The exotic spice character distinguishes it from the juniper-citrus mainstream, and the long finish is genuinely impressive. At around £34, the foundation of a Scottish gin empire — solid, spiced, and properly gin.
