First Impressions
Citadelle Juniper Décadence celebrates 25 years of Citadelle Gin with a bold statement: local Cognac-region juniper aged in small barrels made from juniper wood. Like Hernö's Juniper Cask, the juniper wood amplifies rather than masks the gin's essential character. It is a limited edition for juniper purists.
Tasting
The nose is sweet herbal fir tree and spearmint with lemon, lime and lilac. On the palate, bold juniper immediately — deep evergreen notes with lightly smoky barrel character, hints of angelica and coriander, and a sultry earthy quality from the juniper cask. The finish is long and bracing with juniper and citrus zing.
The Bottom Line
Citadelle Juniper Décadence earns a 7 — the juniper wood ageing intensifies the piney character wonderfully, though the experience can be a little one-note for those wanting complexity beyond juniper. For juniper lovers, it is heaven in a glass. For others, the relentless pine may overwhelm.
