Tasting Notes

Nose

Lemon balm and shredded ginger — wild Irish gorse flower adding a unique coconut-like floral character, the black lemon providing an intense concentrated citrus, complex and layered

Palate

Spicy pine with notes of earthy woodland frost — burst of citrus from the black lemon, sixteen botanicals in remarkable harmony, cardamom and caraway warmth, basil freshness, bay leaf herbal depth, the gorse flower sweetness threading through

Finish

Clean and long — lingering rooted orange citrus, slowly roasted spice, the black lemon's intensity persisting, gorse flower honeyed sweetness on the exhale, a gin that rewards slow drinking

Expert Review

8/10

The first release from Midleton's micro-distillery in Cork, crafted by master distiller Brian Nation and apprentice Henry Donnelly. Distilled in 'Mickey's Belly' — Ireland's oldest gin still, first commissioned in 1958. Sixteen botanicals led by black lemon (dried whole lemons from the Middle East) and wild Irish gorse flower. Gold at Gin Masters 2021 and 2022, Irish Whiskey Awards 2024 winner. The experimental arm of one of the world's most famous distilleries.
