Tasting Notes

Nose

Orange and lemon citrus leading — juniper present but wet and bushy rather than piney, suggestive green notes, the Riesling adding a subtle fruit character underneath, quieter and more contemplative than most gins

Palate

Rose coming through mid-palate with stone fruit hints — florals on the back of the throat, thick and layered mouthfeel from the thirty botanicals and Riesling blend, lavender and lemon thyme adding herbaceous complexity, ginger warmth

Finish

Acidic wine-like notes emerging — standard dry-out with angelica, sage, thyme and bitter orange zest, the Riesling's acidity extending the finish beautifully, each batch subtly different with the vintage

Expert Review

8/10

A partnership between Andreas Vallendar of Avadis Distillery and Dorothee Zilliken of VDP Forstmeister Geltz-Zilliken, a Saarburg wine estate making Riesling for over 270 years. Thirty botanicals are distilled, then blended with a precise amount of fruity, semi-sweet Riesling. Each batch carries the vintage year on its wax-sealed cork. Made in Winchelingen near the Luxembourg and France borders. Orange and rose, wine-like acidity, thyme and sage on the finish.
