Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin: The Yarra Valley Benchmark
Contemporary 41.8% ABV ABV Four Pillars GinStar anise makes this special
What sets this apart is the star anise working alongside that pepperberry tingle. The nose is incredible — bold juniper with cinnamon and citrus peel. At 41.8% it's got enough weight to stand up in a G&T without being overpowering.
Complex and warming
Every sip reveals something new. The coriander and cardamom on the palate give way to that long, warming finish with Tasmanian pepperberry. The cinnamon spice lingers beautifully. One of Australia's finest.
Bold flavours done right
Love the way the lavender tempers the pepperberry heat. The juniper authority is always present but never overwhelming. A Contemporary gin that truly earns its reputation.
Brilliant in cocktails
The spice-forward profile with cardamom and pepperberry makes this a cocktail bartender's dream. Lavender softness rounds everything out. Genuinely complex Contemporary gin.
Proper Australian craft gin
Four Pillars have nailed the balance between bold juniper and those native Australian botanicals. The cardamom warmth plays beautifully against the lemon myrtle brightness. A really well-made Contemporary gin.
Interesting but quite spicy
The Tasmanian pepperberry really dominates on the palate. I appreciate the lavender softness and the star anise complexity, but the spice-forward nature isn't quite to my taste. Decent Contemporary gin at 41.8%, just a bit too much heat for easy sipping.
Absolute stunner of a gin
This is everything a Contemporary gin should be. The interplay of star anise, Tasmanian pepperberry, and lemon myrtle creates something utterly unique. The long, warming finish with cinnamon and dry juniper is perfection. My desert island gin.
